The Ask Peter Mailbag Clearout!

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

So I was on vacation for a couple of weeks. This means that I have a lot of questions in my mailbag to answer. 35 questions to be exact. Now, I can’t answer all 35 questions in one post. However, I can attempt to answer as many as I can, and keep coming back in installments until I have all the questions answered.

Today’s question is from Zeke:

Zeke

Where do you find time and the motivation to do the things you do?

Well, Zeke, it’s not always easy.

Sometimes my forced deadlines of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday can make it hard to write when my life (and homework) gets in the way of what I want to do. Sometimes I don’t always get my posts up on time — however, when I ran on a “when I felt like it” method, I was often alternating between writing too much and spending weeks not writing at all. This created a large discrepancy that was both confusing for my one or two readers, as well as me.

Now, I have to make time. By force! A good method I found is this one that I ripped off some productivity website, 43 Folders, and then modified it so that it’s twisted and no longer reflects the original intention.

The first part is to go out and get a stopwatch that is capable of counting down (like a timer). Any timer will do really, as long as it’s not obnoxiously loud. (Egg timers don’t work.) Set the timer to twenty minutes. Preform “work” for that amount of time (for example, blogging). When time is up, set the timer for five minutes. Preform “non-work”/procrastination for that amount of time. The rule is that you can’t skip or cheat on either section. This is supposed to make breaks inconvenient so you learn to rely on them less.

Or something like that. Hope that helps!

And hopefully I can find time to take multiple questions in the future posts.

DO. NOT. USE.

All right, I’ll take one more question because this one is easy:

Anonymous

Yes, it’s an empty question from an Anonymous sender. So therefore, I can only assume it was one of the most awesome questions I’ve ever received, but it was censored by the government!

DARN YOU, GOVERNMENT!

But “”. And “”. I bet the government censors this.
