I’ve Been Featured on Reddit!

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

Sometimes I like to look at the many weird ways in which this site gets spikes of popularity. Continuously, it’s never been in the way I expect. Long time readers remember that the zebra picture I hosted made it into the top images on Google, only to start a pattern of being on again and off again. My attempt to manually replicate this pattern failed.

But today, I’ve received a smidge of popularity in yet another way. I’ve made it to Reddit.

Well… I haven’t made the big leagues yet — none of my articles have made it to the lofty front page to experience the dreamed millions of clicks, I did make it to the somewhat well read r/Pokemon subreddit. Look! Look! (Click to make it bigger if you can’t read it.)

My article on “Is Mew a Ditto?” a rather impressive and authoritative look into the similarities between Mew and Ditto and whether they were intentional or coincidence has been posted on reddit as A rather impressive investigation into the theoretical connection between Ditto and Mew. Wow!

I even got some coveted indirect upvotes!

One might inquire as to how this feature has affected traffic to this website. Well, nothing to write home about, but I did get a satisfactory spike as Reddit jumped to become my #4 referrer for the month:

Predictably, traffic only lasted for about two days before returning to normal.

But the best part about being featured on Reddit is seeing the comments that people leave. My favourite was a casual response to my mention that people who create complete lists of Pokémon sorted by weight have too much free time:

My second favourite is an indication that my website my actually be readable and liked by people who aren’t me. (Click to make it bigger if you can’t read it.)
