How is Peter Exercising?
Earlier, I made a New Years commitment to complete the Couch to 5K running plan, complete the Hundred Pushups plan and the Two Hundred Sit-ups plan.
So far, I’ve been tracking my success or failure at completing these plans, among other resolutions, on HabitCal. But I decided that I want a more detailed log to keep track of my progress on these plans so I know where to resume for future exercises and look back on my progress. I then decided, in the spirit of my reading list and TV list, why not make this public too?
Nothing in this list is meant to be that awe inspiring. I recognize myself as distinctly below average at fitness.

December 2012
29 Dec 2012 > Completed initial tests for push-ups (10 before collapsing) and sit-ups (25 before collapsing).
January 2013
01 Jan 2013 > Completed Week 1, Day 1 of push-ups and sit-ups.
04 Jan 2013 > Completed Week 1, Day 2 of push-ups and sit-ups.
07 Jan 2013 > Completed Week 1, Day 3 of push-ups and sit-ups. Decided push-ups will go to Week 2, but sit-ups aren’t going well and Week 1 will be repeated.
10 Jan 2013 > Walked 2.6 miles in 50 minutes [3.1mph]. Completed Week 2, Day 1 of push-ups and re-completed Week 1, Day 1 sit-ups.
12 Jan 2013 > Walked 2.6 miles in 45 minutes [3.5mph]. Completed Week 2, Day 2 of push-ups and re-completed Week 1, Day 2 sit-ups.
13 Jan 2013 > Walked 2.4 miles in 60 minutes [2.4mph].
14 Jan 2013 > Walked 2.9 miles in 55 minutes [3.2mph].
15 Jan 2013 > Walked 2.7 miles in 43 minutes [3.8mph]. Completed Week 2, Day 3 of push-ups and re-completed Week 1, Day 3 sit-ups.
16 Jan 2013 > Walked 2.7 miles in 35 minutes [4.6mph].
21 Jan 2013 > Walked 3.0 miles in 40 minutes [4.5mph].
22 Jan 2013 > Took the Week 3 Initial Test for push-ups, and can do 30 consecutive push-ups. Walked/Ran 2.9 miles in 37 minutes [4.7mph].
24 Jan 2013 > Walked/Ran 3.2 miles in 41 minutes [4.7mph].
25 Jan 2013 > Did circuit exercises.
26 Jan 2013 > Walked/Ran 3.1 miles in 38 minutes [4.9mph].
28 Jan 2013 > Did circuit exercises.
29 Jan 2013 > Walked/Ran 3.2 miles in 39 minutes [4.9mph].
30 Jan 2013 > Did circuit exercises.

February 2013
1 Feb 2013 > Walked/Ran 3.1 miles in 38 minutes [4.9mph].
2 Feb 2013 > Did 1.5 hours of exercises with friends. I didn’t record the exact specifics, but there was half an hour of light running around a track, 25 crunches, 25 sit-ups, some other bodyweight exercises, some weight lifting, and wall sitting.
4 Feb 2013 > Did circuit exercises.
5 Feb 2013 > Took a break from the normal exercise routine to check my capabilities. I can do 21 push-ups until collapsing (down from a record of 30), 26 sit-ups until collapsing (up from a record of 20), and can run 1.4 miles before needing to stop (up from a record of 1 mile).
8 Feb 2013 > Walked/Ran 2.6 miles in 30 minutes [5.2mph].
8 Feb 2013 > Walked/Ran 3.1 miles in 37 minutes [5.0mph]. Max distance now 1.6mi. (Max distance is the amount of running I can do in one go before I need to stop and walk.)
11 Feb 2013 > Did circuit exercises.
12 Feb 2013 > Walked/Ran 3.1 miles in 35 minutes [5.3mph]. Max distance now 2.0mi.
14 Feb 2013 > Did circuit exercises.
15 Feb 2013 > Walked/Ran 3.1 miles in 36 minutes [5.2mph]. Max distance now 2.7mi.
17 Feb 2013 > Took a break from the normal exercise routine to check my capabilities. I can do 32 push-ups until collapsing (up from a record of 30) and 35 sit-ups until collapsing (up from a record of 26).
18 Feb 2013 > Did circuit exercises.
19 Feb 2013 > Did circuit exercises.
21 Feb 2013 > Walked/Ran 2.8 miles in 30 minutes [5.6mph].
26 Feb 2013 > Some injuries to my leg and back this week prevented me from exercising as much as I would like. Did circuit exercises.
March 2013
1 Mar 2013 > Did circuit exercises.
3 Mar 2013 > Took a break from the normal exercise routine to check my capabilities. I can do 40 push-ups until collapsing (up from a record of 32) and 40 sit-ups until collapsing (up from a record of 35).
14 Mar 2013 > Sickness prevented me from exercising for awhile, but I resume with some light circuit exercises.
17 Mar 2013 > I continue to get back in the swing of things with light circuit exercises.
18 Mar 2013 > I continue to get back in the swing of things with light circuit exercises.
19 Mar 2013 > I continue to get back in the swing of things with light circuit exercises.
26 Mar 2013 > I’ve been bad about exercising, but now I walked/ran 1.9 miles in 25 minutes [4.6mph].
April 2013
1 Apr 2013 > Took a break from the normal exercise routine to check my capabilities. I can do 35 push-ups until collapsing (up from a record of 32) and 30 sit-ups until collapsing (down from a record of 35).
2 Apr 2013 > I continue to get back in the swing of things with light circuit exercises. Hopefully this goes better than last time.

23 Apr 2013 > Started out with weights! Did 1×5 Squats (45lbs), 1×5 Overhead Presses (30lbs), and 1×5 Deadlifts (135lbs).
25 Apr 2013 > More weights! Did 5×5 Squats (50lbs), 5×5 Rows (95lbs), and 5×5 Benchpresses (45lbs).
27 Apr 2013 > Back to circuit exercises! 40 pushups, then 2×20 bodyweight squats, then 40 sec front plank, and 30 sec each side planks.
28 Apr 2013 > 45 pushups, then 30 pushups, then 2×25 bodyweight squats, then 45 sec front plank, and 35 sec each side planks.
30 Apr 2013 > I walked/ran 1.6 miles in 14 minutes [6.9mph].
May 2013
1 May 2013 > 5×5 Squats (55lbs), 5×5 Overhead Presses (45lbs), and and 1×5 Deadlifts (145lbs).
3 May 2013 > 5×5 Squats (60lbs), 5×5 Benchpresses (50lbs), and 2×5 Rows (100lbs)

I thoroughly recommend joining some sort of wrestling club (B.J.J., Aikido, Judo, Greco-Roma), as long as your ethical system allows, maybe I’ve been lucky but I’ve found them to be extremely supportive.
