A lot of people have been screaming about the sky falling due to the alleged Mayan Prophecy of Doomy doom-doom toward the end of 2012. It’s even come to the point where people are making stupid movies about it!
However, the largest problem with the upcoming doom in 2012 is that they have as much merit as the idea of the world ending in 2000 due to the Y2K Bug. Because that’s what 2012 basically is… the Mayan Y2K Bug.
The Y2K Bug was the fear back in 1999 that when the date rolled around to 2000, the world would end because computers would be unable to process the change in date because computers were used to making all year dates in two digit numbers — 98 or 99, and when it rolled over to 00, it would be indistinguishable from 1900, and because the entire world is computers, mass chaos would ensue.
The basis for the Mayan Prophecy is the end of the Mayan “Long Calendar”, also known as the “Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar” is rolling from the date “12.19.19.17.19″ to the date “13.0.0.0.0″, just like it rolled over to “12.0.0.0.0″ back in September 1618 when the world also didn’t end, and just like our calendars roll over from December 31, 2008 to January 1, 2009 back when the world also didn’t end.
Add to this story that there is absolutely no writings from the Mayans (or any ancient tribe whatsoever) mentioning any interesting things happening at any date equivalent to 2012. The prophecy was entirely made up many years after the Mayans were gone, after the calendar was discovered.
All of the suggested predicted catastrophes (black hole, supernova, giant asteroid, etc.) either violate the laws of physics or can be disproved by simple observations. With over two millenia more technology and scientific understanding, it’s very illogical to assume the Mayans could see something thousands of years in the future that our modern technology can’t see happening only four years from now.
Who would you rather trust on our doomsday? Our government (who some say are very capable of bringing doomsday through evil socialist agendas, and therefore would be experts), or this guy?
Don’t sell everything you have yet. You might just live to see 2013.

Good article but i have to disagree with you, i think that there is a lot of evidence surrounding the Mayan theory and Hopi theory that point to something that is going to happen in 2012, is it going to be the end of the world? We will see.
Actually, I think the 2012 end-of-the-world prophesy is even dumber than Y2K.
Heres a bit bit of proof, it has been discovered that the mayans have made many different calenders, the last one of many stops at 2012, although, it has also been discovered that after these calenders stop the mayans made a symbol which says the years keep going on and on and on.
